Were you ever forced as a kid to go down “memory lane” with your parents? When I was a kid, I went all kinds of places and met all kinds of people…mostly older and distant relatives or old family friends. I’ve seen all the places my family has lived, or been to school, or played. I’ve gone down “memory lane” with my parents so many times, I thought it was definitely one of their favorite past times (although it was not REALLY).
There were parts of these little excursions and stories I enjoyed, but the truth is 1980’s me was waaaay too focused on boys, the mall and MTV to REALLY submerge myself in the history of my family the way my parents did.
It really was not until I was an adult that I realized what a treasure family history is. Now I soak it up. I CANNOT get enough of it. This week I have learned so much about my family history. Some of it my mother is sure she’s told me before…and I’m sure I was focused on other things when said history was told to me (remember 1980’s me?). I cannot wait to pass this history down to my own daughter…when she’s old enough to appreciate it.
Go! Learn about your own family history! You may be surprised at the things you learn!
