As you may expect, over the years I have filled many sketchbooks. They are all various sizes. I always had a sketchbook on me.
I used to make a habit of carrying a full sized sketchbook in a messenger bag purse. It was awesome! However, I have now reached a point in life that my neck will no longer cooperate with such a thing. Because I have a terrible problem with setting things down and leaving them behind, carrying a full sized sketchbook around by hand is risky…ask me how I know (RIP lost 2015 sketchbook 😢).
My challenge in 2018 is adapting to sketching in a pocket sized sketchbook. Today is my first attempt to at adjusting my sketch.
It has been a struggle in this last year not always having my sketchbook. It left me sketching on scraps of paper, paper bags, bulletins, or whatever was close by. Sometimes there was no sketching surface nearby leaving me unable to draw at all.
Pocket sized sketchbooks were never on my radar before, but I am thankful for the invention of that pocket sized archival book of happy. Once again, my sketchbook has become an extension of me. Reuniting with my sketchbook DOES feel so good!
