Don’t pretend you didn’t loooove some silly thing…we all did. One of my favorite toys was my cabbage patch doll, Janis. I loved that doll! As a well-seasoned adult, when I see a child with a doll, I instantly feel that childhood happiness. I loved that innocent time in life where every thing seemed magical and nothing seemed impossible.
Many of us can relate to a moment in childhood where we felt that complete happiness. We grow up and become so burdened with pressures and worries, we may let that childhood magic fizzle out.
My hope is the “Don’t Forget the Kid…in You” series brings nostalgic childhood joy to the heart of viewers. I have found there are times in life that seem unbearable. Sometimes it seems there are obstacles I just can’t overcome, but then I start thinking about my own childhood. Many years ago I learned about faith in God, the peace of God and the grace of God. He is the one entity from my past that isn’t just a happy memory. He is still with me guiding me through life. …That moment when my heart is broken beyond repair? He’s there. That moment where I’m so angry, I could scream? He’s there. ….Sometimes in the midst of my stressful grown-up life, I have to get back to a childlike faith.
It’s okay to keep a little “childhood” with you in adulthood. It may be the thing that gets you through. So, sing out loud, dance while you make dinner; play a random round of “tag”. Don’t spend your adult life being miserable. Take time to remember. Don’t forget the kid…in you.
